What is Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that involves applying pressure to certain points on the feet, hands or ears to stimulate healing and relaxation in other parts of the body. It has been practiced in various cultures for thousands of years.

One of the earliest known forms of reflexology comes from ancient Egypt, where it was depicted in hieroglyphs on the walls of tombs and temples. The Egyptians believed that reflexology could help restore balance and harmony between mind and body, and was often used in conjunction with other therapies such as massage, aromatherapy and herbal medicine.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the practice of reflexology is known as “zone therapy” and is based on the concept of Qi, the vital energy that flows through the body. Chinese reflexology focuses on specific points on the feet and hands that correspond to different organs and systems in the body. By stimulating these points, practitioners aim to rebalance Qi and promote health and well-being.

Indian Ayurvedic medicine also incorporates reflexology, “Padabhyanga” in Sanskrit. In Ayurveda, the feet are a map of the body, with specific reflex points corresponding to different organs and systems. Reflexology is used to help balance the body’s energy and promote healing.

In many traditional cultures, reflexology is still widely practiced today. It is often used in conjunction with other therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and massage to promote overall health and well-being.

The pressure points on the feet are associated with every organ in the body.
